Ogonaso Chief renames Basic School after Teflon Bronzy as SKA Foundation saves his people with potable water

The Odikro of the Ogonaso Community in the Asikuma/Odoben/Brakwa District, in the Central Region of Ghana, Nana Kwame Etuafo, has announced that the only Basic School in the community has been renamed after Mr. Samuel Kofi Acheampong (SKA), founder of the SKA Foundation.

According to the Chief, the decision was reached at a meeting with his elders, explaining that renaming the school after Mr. Kofi Aheampong was deemed highly appropriate because, the philanthropist had provided the community with a modern mechanized borehole with a storage facility.

Mr. Acheampong on Friday, April 5, 2024 commissioned a borehole facility for the Ogonasocommunity after news report on Kumasi-based Angel FM revealed the community’s deprived status and its lack of potable water.

The Odikro, who expressed his extreme worry about the town’s constant neglect by successive governments, thanked Mr. Acheampong for heeding to their cry for good drinking water.

He indicated that for over a decade, the Ogonasocommunity had been sharing the same stream with livestock, posing health risks to the indigenes, especially, pupils of the Ogonaso DA Basic School, who mainly depended on the stream during school hours.

“We thirst for water during the dry season. In the rainy season, the stream we share with livestock gets polluted but we have no other option than to use same.

It is heartwarming that a philanthropist all the way from Kumasi has heard our cry and responded to our needs. We have been neglected by governments but Mr. Acheampong didn’t neglect us.

We as a community are grateful to him and we are naming the Ogonaso D/A Basic School after him. This school shall henceforth be called S.K AcheampongBasic School, Ogonaso”, Nana Etuafo noted during the commission of the water project.

He further appealed for a teachers bungalow and a completion of an abandoned 3-unit classroom block of the Ogonaso Basic D/A.

Mr. Acheampong on his part expressed excitement for the honor bestowed on him by the Community leaders and promised to work on the other challenges levelled before him.

Speaking at the short commissioning ceremony, Founder of SKA Foundation, Mr. Samuel Kofi Acheampong explained that he was completely touched by the story aired by Angel FM in which videos of school children drinking dirty water in bottles, were shown.

In the said story, school children were seen in videos and photos, fetching and drinking dirty water from a stream. From interviews played on the Angel FM News, some male inhabitants of Ogonaso said most of the men in the community had been diagnosed of having Schistosomiasis/Bilharzia caused by the infected water they drink from the dirty stream. Women complained that even to get some of the dirty stream water to their homes, they had to wake up at midnight to queue up near the streams in order not to fetch mad to their homes at dawn or in the morning.

Telling the gathering about the foundation, Bronzy noted that the SKA Foundation places premium on impacting lives of deprived individuals and communities. He was hopeful that the water project would bring a big relief and good health to the people of Ogonaso.

He promised to work around the clock to find solutions to other challenges enumerated by the Chief of the community.

He expressed gratitude to the One Time Water Works Company, the drilling company that worked on the project, for expeditiously completing the work before the scheduled time.

Mr. Samuel Kofi Acheampong, in commissioning the borehole facility, was accompanied by friends and members of the SKA foundation, including media personality, Kwame Tanko (KT) of Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Mr. S.K Acheampong, affectionately referred to by many as Teflon Don Bronzy, is the owner of Teflon Suites, a luxurious hotel facility, in Kumasi; Bronzy Logistics and a host of other businesses.
