Feed your ‘hungry’ communicators – Atubiga advises NPP’s Wontumi
Two years after the election of President Akufo-Addo, some aggrieved Communicators for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region numbering over 70 burned their phones to drive home a message to the leadership of the party for what they termed as neglect after helping the party win power.
Fast forward in May 2021, another group of communicators embarked on a sit-down strike to drive home their demands.
The aggrieved party communicators, according to reports, have pointed to the disparity in resource allocation as part of their grievances and the total neglect by party executives.
Confirming the situation within the NPP, a former member of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr. Stephen Atubiga cautioned the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known publicly as Wontumi to take care of party communicators, adding that ‘they can make and unmake the party.
Speaking on the maiden political show on Wontumi Television in Accra and pointing directly to Chairman Wontumi who appeared sober, he said:
“I want to advise you to take good care of your communicators. These people, regardless, are the backbone of the party. It is dangerous to ignore them in the face of hardships. As I sit here, I have a tall list of your communicators who keep begging me for arms. Some need fuel and others to go on radio and speak for the party. Don’t ignore such people.”
“It shouldn’t happen that one person chops alone. This is a political party and its business. Enough of one manism, the one man show must end and everyone must be appreciated. You should not promise people and fail them. I know it’s difficult sometimes but some of these people all they need is for you to just check up on them. Please try and do this and don’t give them away, he added.
Founder of the National Liberation Congress proceeded to write on his Facebook page, stressing the need for such behaviours to end.
“These are lessons both the NPP and the NDC must listen to and take seriously.
No more monkeys dey work, baboons dey chop”, he stressed.
Chairman Wontumi has been blamed by party members and executives in recent times for reprehensible behaviours recorded among the rank and file of the party.
While some accuse him of promoting division among party members and executives in the region, others believe
voting him out is best for the party’s ‘break the eight’ agenda.
Chairman Wontumi’s former chief of staff, Akwasi Nti has said his former boss is behind the acrimony and increasing factionalism which appears to be rearing its ugly head in the party in the Ashanti Region.
