Bryan Acheampong replaces Afriyie Akoto as Agric Minister

Accra, Ghana – The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abetifi constituency, Hon. Bryan Acheampong has been appointed by President, Akufo-Addo as the Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin made this known on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

Hon. Bryan Acheampong who served in the US Air Force between 2004 and 2006 was the Minister of State in charge of National Security after he was appointed and sworn in on April 4th, 2017.

The Legislator was first elected in the by-election on July 16th 2016 on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a majority vote of 14,015.

Bryan Acheampong was later elected in the 2016 general elections with an overwhelming majority vote of 23,432 representing 74.61%.

His appointment as the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture comes on the back of the resignation of the former Minister and now flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

The Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture and other Ministers nominated by the President are expected to be vetted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Other new appointments announced by the Speaker include;

Hon. Kobina Tahiru Hammond – Minister for Trade and Industry

Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng – Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs

Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam – Minister of State in the Finance Ministry

Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah – Minister for Local Government

Hon. Herbert Krapah – Deputy Minister for Energy

Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah – Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry
