‘Galamseyers’ attack residents at Adansi-Brofoyedu in the A/R

Reports reaching Purefmonline.com indicate that some town folks of Adansi Brofoyedu in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti region (A/R) have been physically assaulted for complaining against ongoing galamsey activities.

This follows earlier several protests by some resident young men against the canker leading to a clash with the miners, last week.

According to an eyewitness, there are currently six sites illegally been mined in only two towns, including some farm lands.

The victims, some four men, received the beatings of their lives for visiting one of the ‘galamsey’ sites to film the ongoing illegality ruining their livelihoods

Speaking anonymously to Pure FM, a male victim disclosed that, against government’s ban on the activity, the town is still witnessing consistent mining which has landed in demolishing every water body and other natural resources of the town.

“As I speak with you, you cannot drink from any river or stream. Those we could rely on for irrigation purposes at our farms are all contaminated. These galamseyers are threats to our lives here”,

“If you will cook at the farm, you will have to buy a sachet of purified water and carry it along with you”, He cried.

Some videos received, show present horrific state of the Gyimi river and the degraded nature of lands in the area.

Their distress is borne out of what they consider as total negligence of the community leaders and the Assembly, who they believe are to lead the anti-campaign.

The community is pleading for the intervention of government through the relaunched Operation Hault II.

A concern of a resident youth.
