Mahama’s Questions ‘Flimsy’ – Bawumia Challenges Former President to Debate
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, has dismissed former President John Mahama’s five questions as “flimsy.” Mahama had asked Bawumia to address Ghana’s economic challenges, foreign exchange rates, rising national debt, soaring inflation, and his focus on digitalization.
Bawumia, however, invited Mahama to a debate, saying he expected a one-on-one discussion to address these issues. “Come for a debate, then the moderators can ask me your flimsy questions,” Bawumia challenged.
Mahama’s questions were posed during a speech to NDC supporters at Tatale in the Northern Region on Monday, October 28. Mahama referenced Bawumia’s past criticism of the economy, noting that Bawumia had asked 170 questions to former Vice President Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur.
Mahama argued that Bawumia should demonstrate the same transparency and accountability he demanded from others. “He posed 170 questions to my Vice President Amissah-Arthur. He should go and answer the 170 questions himself. Indeed, he shouldn’t answer 170 questions. He should answer only three questions.”
Mahama specifically highlighted Ghana’s economic struggles, asking Bawumia to explain the country’s rising debt and inflation. “Why has Ghana’s debt risen from GH¢120 billion to GH¢767 billion in eight years? Why did inflation rise to 54% under your administration for eight years?”
Bawumia’s invitation to a debate aims to address these concerns directly, while Mahama demands transparency and accountability through answers to these questions. The exchange underscores the contrasting economic visions and leadership styles of the two presidential candidates.
