Dr. Richard Ampofo Boadu, the Administrator of the Ghana Educational Trust Fund (GETFund),has addressed claims that the government abandoned the E-Blocks, Community Day Schools initiated by former President John Mahama in an interview at Pure Fm. He clarified that GETFund is a public trust established by Parliament in 2000 and amended in 2002, with contributions from everyone in the country, except children.
He also added that Between 2019 and 2023, GETFund completed an impressive 2,731 infrastructure projects. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving education infrastructure. Notably, these projects include basic school facilities, senior high school projects, technical and vocational education projects, E-Blocks, model schools, and tertiary-level infrastructure developments.
He further explained that GETFund has distributed 2,718 vehicles to various agencies and institutions under the Ministry of Education. Additionally, the fund sponsored 70% of the “One Teacher, One Laptop” initiative, aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.
Currently, 3,500 projects are underway, with 80% expected to be completed within three years. These projects comprise both legacy initiatives and new developments. Dr. Boadu emphasized that it has never been the government’s intention to abandon contracts or projects inherited from the previous administration.
Regarding the E-Blocks, Dr. Boadu stated that all have been worked on, except for 27, which have been put on hold by the Ministry of Education.
