I am not responsible for jailing people in Ghana- Akuffo Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has emphasized his non-involvement in the jailing of individuals in Ghana, citing the separation of powers. In an exclusive interview with France 24, he addressed the recent arrests of protesters.

“I am not responsible for jailing people in Ghana,” Akufo-Addo stated. “The courts in Ghana are independent institutions and have been so throughout the 4th Republic. People misconduct themselves and are brought before the court; it is for the court to deal with them, not the executive. Their behavior is what landed them in trouble with the Police and the court.”

Akufo-Addo, whose political career was built on leading protests, reaffirmed his support for peaceful demonstrations. “I don’t have problems with protests, and nothing is done in Ghana to prevent people from airing their views.”

He urged protesters to collaborate with authorities to address the Galamsey menace peacefully. “Let’s work together to find sustainable solutions.”
