KMA announces Microgrant winners under the KMA’s Youth in climate action fund

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is set to release between $1,000 to $5,000 to 14 youth growths under its Youth in climate action fund, after they successfully adopted the climate solutions proposals of these identified groups and declared them as winners.

This follows the Hon. Mayor, Sam Pyne’s, launch of the ‘Youth in Climate Action Microgrant Fund’ and the subsequent opened of call on 24th May 2024, for proposals from youth groups aged 15-24 within the metropolis.

It is reported that an impressive thirty-three (33) proposals were submitted to drive climate solutions aligned with KMAs’ Climate Action Plan for 2024.

Of these, three (3) proposals were disqualified due to late submission with a total of thirty (30) proposals successfully progressing through the first and second phases of the selection process.

The Selection Committee were, composed of technocrats, community representatives and the academia. They conducted a comprehensive three-week evaluation, which involved reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and justifying budgets.

As a result, fourteen (14) proposals have been so far selected to receive the KMA’s Microgrant.

In a media release, the Assembly notes that “consequently, funds ranging from US$ 1,000 to US$ 5,000 will be allocated to the youth groups to implement their projects over a three (3) month duration.”

“The Hon. Mayor extends his heartfelt congratulations to the winners and commends all applicants for their steadfast commitment to effecting positive change in our community.

The Mayor is confident that this initiative, undertaken in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, will have a lasting impact on our environment and inspire others to take decisive action against climate change.
Together, we can strive toward a greener, more sustainable future for the city of Kumasi.” Part of the statement reads.
