Cement Makers Oppose Price Hike
The Chamber of Cement Manufacturers (COCMAG) has presented a petition to Parliament, urging lawmakers to reject the proposed increase in cement prices. The manufacturers argue that the price hike would have a negative impact on consumers and the growth of the construction industry. They are calling for a more sustainable solution to address any challenges they may be facing.
In a letter to Parliament, COCMAG expressed concerns that the proposal was presented without prior consultation with key stakeholders in the cement industry. They petitioned Parliament to decline the proposed Legislative Instrument and instead engage with the Chamber and other stakeholders to discuss and address the underlying causes of the price escalation.
The chamber’s leader, Dr. Dawson-Ahmoah, reiterated their commitment to collaborating with the government for a stable and prosperous cement industry in Ghana. He urged Parliament to consider their petition and ensure that the voices of primary stakeholders in the cement industry are heard and respected.
