NPP-USA celebrates 30 years of existence; Bawumia joins the anniversary

By: Prince Adjei – Guy Gee

The United States branch of the New Patriotic Party(NPP-USA) is 30 years old and has celebrated the occasion with a series of programmes and activities.

In its initial stages of formation in the early 1990s, things were not smooth but the actors and the party members at the time tried their best to put the branch on sound footing. Politics in Ghana in those times was quiet unattractive and difficult in view of the acrimony and bickerings associated with it back home and these had an impact on membership when the idea of a branch formation began. However, with the instrumentality of some hardworking party personalities at the time, the US branch of the party which did not have things as rosy as it were at the primary stages in terms of membership and organisation, now boasts of hundreds of thousands of members and has stood the test of political time.

It is refreshing to note that, the NPP-USA has worked tirelessly and emerged as one of the formidable overseas branches of the mother party with many of its members serving as ministers of state, deputy ministers, MMDCES, Chief Executive Officers, Director-Generals of state institutions and other appointees of the Government of Ghana.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia who graced the occasion as the Special Guest of honour, enumerated several achievements of the NPP government and outlined his vision for the country should he be elected the President in the next general elections. He lauded the leadership and members of the branch for their unflinching support to the mother party.

Personalities like the Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP), Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, Bantama MP, Dr. Ben Asante, CEO of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Mr. Joe Anokye, Director General of NCA, Mr. Kwame Owusu, Former Director General of Ghana Maritime Authority and many more were honoured for their contributions and support in diverse ways towards the branch.
