The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has hailed the exploits of the Vice-President, Mahamadu Bawumia over the Veep’s desire to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, Purefmonline.com reports
Sammi Awuku making a case for the Vice-President’s flagbearership bid on Kumasi-based Pure FM, stated that the Vice-President stands tall amongst the various candidates seeking to lead the NPP.
He expressed that the Veep’s competence, integrity, truthfulness, party-government relations and his strong economic background make him the man of choice for the party and Ghanaians.
The NLA Boss explained that he foresees two non-Akans leading the two major political parties in Ghana and that Dr. Bawumia’s background as a Muslim, and Northerner give him an added strategic advantage to be selected as the NPP’s leader and deliver power for the NPP.
“Dr. Bawumia’s contribution to the NPP cannot be discounted. In the heat of the election petition, he stood firmly on his feet to defend the party’s integrity and image. You can’t say the Veep has not done enough.
I’m not saying the elections will be won on tribal lines but are you saying for one party’s Northerner, Ghanaians will accept him but will not accept that of the other?
Dr. Bawumia has proven integrity, truthfulness and competence. All the candidates qualify to lead the party but Dr. Bawumia is the most suitable strategic candidate for the NPP and that is why I’m urging all my faithfuls to choose him as our leader.” Sammi Awuku told Kwame Adinkrah on Pure FM.
Sammi Awuku however acknowledged that, Candidates like Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Hon. Alan Kyeremateng will give the Vice President a good run for his money in the party’s primaries.
“I’m confident my candidate will win hands down. But I know Ken and Alan will give us a good run for our money. They pose a threat.”
