Video: I support LGBTQI – Abeiku Santana

Media Personality, Abeiku Aggrey Santana has thrown his weight behind activists of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, & Intersex Life (LGBTQI+) rights in Ghana remarking that he subscribes to their opinions, Purefmonline.com reports.

The multiple award winning broadcaster made this revelation when he anchored Accra-based UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’ entertainment program on Saturday, November 13, 2022 monitored by Purefmonline.com.

His comment was in reference to a discussion on the program which related to the suspension of Ghanaian YouTuber, Elorm Ababio, popularly known as ‘Ama Governor’ from being called to the Ghana Bar by the General Legal Council (GLC) on a complaint which is said to have been received from a “concerned citizen” alleging that the candidate lacked good character to practice as a Ghanaian Lawyer.

Many social media commentators have attributed Ama Governor’s suspension to her open declaration of belonging to the LGBTQI+ community as video recordings of her YouTube content are said to show her allegedly declaring to be bisexual and explicitly detailing her sexual experiences.

Abeiku Santana in commenting on the issue announced that he is contemplating challenging the LGBTQI+ laws in Ghana, having been a student of law himself.

“LGBTQ whatever, I have studied law and with this background, I want to challenge or test the law.

I will use myself as an example and announce that, I am a subscriber to the opinions who support the sexuality of people which is deemed as their own choice.

What harm will the sexuality of another cause to the [Law] profession that will warrant a petitioner to initiate an action at the General Legal Council against another on the issue of the action contravening the customary laws of Ghana, and on that basis deny an individual the opportunity of being called to the [Ghana] Bar?” He questioned on the program.

It has however been confirmed that the General Legal Council has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the complaint against Ama Governor. Her call to the bar has meanwhile been put on hold pending the outcome of the investigation.
