Audio: Gov’t to cushion NSS personnel with Cost of Living Allowance- Executive Director

The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi has revealed that Government has advanced plans to provide Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to cushion personnel registered under the scheme in these hard times of economic crisis, Purefmonline.com reports.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi made this disclosure when he visited some ongoing NSS registration centers in Accra on October 31, 2022.

“Well like Oliver Twist, Oliver always ask for more, so if you ask me, Oliver is always asking and we are hopeful that the President will do something about them.

Recently, maybe you have heard that the President gave COLA to the workers. Once the President has started, it will also come to their turn.

Anywhere I go, my advice has been very short. They should go there and be good ambassadors. They should go there and be discipline and abide by the principles of all the user agencies.

Every user agency has got their code of ethics and my advice to them is that they should be obedient.” Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) told the Service personnel in an interaction with the media.

Government in July 2022 reached an agreement with organised labour for the payment of Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) after a long period of strike.

The Government as part of measures to support the Ghanaian public sector worker agreed to pay a rate of 15% of the worker’s base salary as a Cost of Living Allowance .

Already, the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) says an amount of GH¢485 million has been paid as cost-of-living allowance (COLA) to public sector workers for the months of July and August.
