The Dean of School of Graduate Studies and Research at the Christian Service University College (CSUC), Rev. Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi has stated that tertiary education is not purposed for employment finding as students have always been made to believe.
He contends that the intention for higher education is knowledge acquisition and skills impartation to create avenue to face the real world.
“Many Ghanaians believe that we attend university education so to find job after completion; I somehow disagree”, He alerted.
He made this disclosure last week, at the CSUC’s media launch of four new postgraduate programmes commencing next month, Purefmonline.com reports.
The programmes are; Master of Arts (MA), Communication Studies, Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Communication Studies, Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Mathematics Education and Master of Philosophy (MPhil), English Education.
Addressing the infamous subject of graduates unemployment, Rev. Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi inspired graduates to instead embark on entrepreneurship per their abilities, than to rely solely on government for recruitment or job opportunities.
He cited that they are to deploy the universal knowledge and skills acquired during training to create profiting ventures for themselves, adding, it is the surest means of realizing financial freedom.
“So to those I teach, I encourage them that when you finish, create your own businesses. You can pursue these courses being talked of today. Start your business when you are done studying these courses equipped with the knowledge of managing your own entity and recruit others to create employment avenues too.”
“Those paid monthly salaries can only become billionaires through thievery or corruption. Billionaires are the sole proprietors”, He explained.
According to him, sometimes, graduates can even apply their acquired knowledge at different fields of study and end up bettering that venture.
Prof. Adu Gyamfi, affirmed that Ghana is really in need of such personalities who will create jobs for themselves as the total dependence of graduates on government for employment is a worry to the nation.
