The Ministry of Education (MoE) has reacted to claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Abomosu Stem Senior High School (SHS) is one of the many legacies of ex-President Mahama in the education sector of the country, Purefmonline.com reports.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM, the Spokesperson of the MoE, Yaw Opoku Mensah Jnr. described as propaganda by the NDC to scramble for recognition and achievements in the educational sector of the country having recognized the successes of the President Akufo-Addo led administration in the arena.
He noted that the ‘cliche propagandism’ of the NDC, most especially by their National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, in laying claims to the Abomosu Stem SHS as being started by former President Mahama is not only an undercurrent but a gross disrespect to the people of Abomosu, residents of the Eastern region and the country at large.
“In the attempt by the chief linguist of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi to defend the incompetent governance during their tenure, he tendered to the embellishment of lies to deceive the good people of Ghana. He asserted that as part of their infrastructural development, former President Mahama between 2012 to 2016 cut sod for the construction of Abomosu STEM SHS in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region. This isn’t just undercurrent but a gross disrespect to the people of Abomosu and the country at large.
Let me put this on record in my capacity as a citizen and the deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Abomosu STEM Senior High School was started by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP government in 2019 and is near completion to be operationalized in January 2023.
The site for the Abomosu STEM SHS project which is funded by the GETFund was handed over to the government on 15th October 2019. It comprises of an Administration block, two Science Blocks consisting of thirty-two classrooms and twelve Laboratory which will cater for physics, chemistry, biology and a general laboratory for three streams of students. A two Dormitory Block, a three-storey Dormitory Block, a Library Block, Staff Flats, an Assembly Hall which can take over 2000 students, a Dining Hall Block with Kitchen, Principal’s Residence and two Vice Principals’ Residence.”
“This forms part of the commitment of the NPP government through the Ministry of Education to improve STEM Education with the construction of Prototype Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Technical Focused Schools together with Creative Arts Senior High Schools across the length and breadth of this country.
To this effect, we have ten new STEM Senior High Schools with four having been completd and in operationalization while the remaining six are at various levels of completion.”
“The four completed STEM Schools include Abomosu SHS in the Eastern Region, Bosomtwe Girls SHS in Ashanti Region, Kpasenkpe SHS in North East Region, and Awaso SHS in the Western North Region.
The remaining six which are steadily ongoing are Kwadaso Creative Arts SHS in Ashanti Region, John Agyekum Kuffour Senior High and Technical School at Dabaa in the Ashanti Region, Akrodie SHS in the Ahafo Region, Weija SHS in the Greater Accra Region, Koase in the Bono Region and Diaso in the Central Region of Ghana.”
“STEM Education, which holds the key to the government’s transformational agenda has been substantially boosted to close the gap between humanities and sciences. This is evident with the resource materials and infrastructure provided by the government to equip the pupil with the critical skills and knowledge to help the country thrive in the technological advancement of this century.
With the above facts and data provided, it is only a propagandist like Sammy Gyamfi who will sit on public television and contemptuously claim that Abomosu STEM SHS project among others which commenced in 2019 by the NPP government was started by the NDC during Mahama’s tenure. It will be prudent for him to measure his temerity of engaging in a such endeavour to defend his party at the expense of becoming a laughing stock in the country.” Yaw Opoku Mensah Jnr. stated on Pure FM.
