‘Destruction For Gold’ exposé to be aired at the Presidency, Embassies- Erastus Asare Donkor

The painstaking investigative piece by Luv FM/Nhyira FM’s Journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor is set to be viewed by the President of the Republic and various diplomats in the country, Purefmonline.com reports.

The exposé which shines light on illegal mining activities popularly referred to as ‘Galamsey’, unravels pathetic scenes of damaged water bodies as well as massive impairment to other natural resources across the country.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Pure FM with Kwame Adinkrah, Erastus Asare Donkor projected that he has conceived plans to present the three part documentary to the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and all land and natural resources related organizations after airing it on his media outfit.

“With regard to this exposé, we intend submitting the full piece to the President, Embassies in the country, concerned and related organizations and stakeholders at large.”

Erastus in his submission consented to a preposition by the host to consider public screening of the full documentary to allow for more viewership.

Depicting more discovered fouls, Erastus Asare Donkor said they uncovered the miners at different locations wielding arms, to deter intruders and were poised to shoot and kill.

“At a certain point, we were life-threatened even though we identified ourselves as Journalists. We were told to leave the scene else anything can happen.”

He opined that the seriousness of the repercussions of galamsey falls at the doorstep of every Ghanaian whether or not one is located at a mining area.

According to him, laboratory analysis of water samples collected from those polluted mined areas portrays composition of high concentrated levels of poisonous chemicals like Mercury and other elements which pose danger to aquatic inhabitants.

“These nine waters captured include the Offin River, River Bonsa, River Bia, River Ankobea, Afu Afu Stream, Amoya Stream, Toatoa Stream, Nwui River and Tano River, the receptor of residues from the operations of Akonta Mining Limited inside the Nimiri Tano forest reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.” He told Kwame Adinkrah.

Erastus Asare Donkor further sounded an appeal to the public to yield to calls for participation in the fight against galamsey as its adverse effects cut across all divides, directly or indirectly.
