A/R NPP polls: Council of elders angry over omission of 6 names from voter album

The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have said, they will boycott the party’s regional executive elections tomorrow over an alleged omission of names from the voter album.

According to them, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah together with Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Wontumi), have removed majority of their members from the album therefore they may not not exercise their franchise in the polls.

At a presser on Friday evening, led by Rev Mark Adu-Gyamfi, the Ashanti Regional NPP Council of Elders Chairman, he said they submitted 10 names to compile the album for the polls, however 6 of the names have been removed and replaced by some unknown persons. The move by the party’s leadership he said is unfortunate.

Nana Wiafe Ababio, member of the council stated categorically that, they’re not going vote on the election day if the anomaly is not rectified.

“We submitted 10 names to participate in the polls but they’ve removed 6 names in the album and replaced it with unknown names. We don’t know those names so we’re not going to vote tomorrow.”

“With this kind of attitude, it will be difficult for NPP to break the eight. I won’t bother myself to campaign for the party anymore. Non of us here is bigger than the NPP, but Wontumi wants to tell us that he’s bigger than our party and its rules. The issues regarding the album is quite unfortunate and puts the NPP in a bad light. If this is how we want to break the 8, then I’m sorry!”
