(AUDIO): Akufo-Addo will regret being President if Free SHS is reviewed- Joseph Yammin

A National Organizer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Joseph Yammin has served notice to President Akufo-Addo to not review or cancel its flagship Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, Purefmonline.com reports.
The former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister under the erstwhile ex-President John Mahama’s administration in an interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM, monitored by Purefmonline.com, noted that in the wake of the compounding economic challenges Ghana is confronted with, the President should not ‘dare’ adopt a cancellation of its FSHS policy as part of the promised solutions to revamp the economy.
Hon. Yammin said they (NDC) will make the President regret it if such a strategy is employed to lessen the economic burden of the government.
“The Government should not dare scrap the free SHS policy. Amongst the many mistakes of the government that have been ignored by Ghanaians, a cancellation or review of the free SHS program shouldn’t be part of the list.
If he dares touch it, he will regret ever being the President of Ghana. He once said review is cancellation so as far as we are concerned, whatever he does to the free SHS will amount to cancellation and we will not accept it.”
“He should give the IGP an order that anyone who trumpets a review of the free SHS program should be arrested. The order must be made public so as to cease anyone from making the mistake of calling for a review of the free SHS policy.” Yammin told host, Kojo Marfo on Kumasi-based Abusua FM.
Joseph Yammin’s comment comes in the wake of various calls from some known ruling NPP activist to review or suspend the Free SHS program.
Kennedy Nyarko Osei, the MP of Akim Swedru suggested in a Facebook post that the governing NPP should consider suspending the FSHS and channel the accrued money into productive sectors of the economy.
“Since most Ghanaians are not appreciating those social interventions and complaining about hardship, it will be prudent for the government to put those monies into the productive sectors of the economy. We will be saving like 5-6 billion if we decide to take the above decisions and channel all those monies into the productive sector of the economy.” The MP wrote.
Also, Prof Stephen Adei, a former Chairperson of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has tasked the government to examine the free SHS policy that he says has already stretched the economy seeing that government allocates 7.5 billion every year to the program.
