In a renewed fight in the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region, three Ghanaian troops attached to the 11th Mechanised Infantry Batallion based in Bazua, have suffered gunshot wounds after they embarked on an operation to restore peace and weed out miscreants in the area. The event occurred early on Wednesday morning. [16 March, 2022].
Three people are alleged to also feared dead from the exchange of gunfire between the soldiers and some residents at Barbari-Buabula, a suburb of Bawku.
The injured soldiers were said to have first been transferred to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital and then to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The soldiers have since been evacuated to Accra’s 37 Military Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of the injuries.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has pleaded with the Military High Command in a media interview to not visit reprisal attacks on residents of the Bawku township so as to not hurt innocent civilians.
It is reported that many public and civil servants have fled the area for fear of attack from the Military.
