CoS’s GH¢50K donation to Afia Schwarzenegger could be a lie- NPP’s Awal Mohammed.

An alleged GHC50,000 funeral donation made by Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Osei-Opare to media personality, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa (Afia Schwarzenegger) during the funeral rites of the latter’s father in Kumasi last Saturday has generated several stirs and reactions on social media.

Scores of the critics finds the alleged act insensitive and politically inexpedient especially with the government’s incessant appeal for widespread revenue mobilization taking into considering the general economic challenge faced in the country.

The Television and radio personality in an appreciation video posted last Sunday on her official Instagram handle revealed that the Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Osei-Opare, was instrumental in the preparation of the final rites for her late father, Purefmonline.com reports.

Going on her knees to pray for the Chief of Staff, Afia Schwarzenegger revealed that Hon. Frema Osei-Opare donated GH¢50,000 to her and her family not only for the funeral but also for the transportation of her father’s coffin to Ghana.

Afia noted that the Chief of Staff further asked her to make known any extra cost the family may incur so she could offer additional help.

However, in a reaction to the outcry on social media by known supporters of the NPP over the said donation, the Public Relations Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Awal Mohammed asked the aggrieved foot soldiers to give the Chief of Staff a hearing before the public consume Afia Schwarzenegger’s allegation hook line and sinker.

”What if Afia Schwarzenegger is lying? Let’s listen to other side of the story. Let’s not be quick in condemning our own.” Mr. Awal Mohammed stated on his Facebook handle which attracted a mirage of attacks from his party faithfuls.

Meanwhile, United Kingdom based Pharmacist, Dr. Kwame Sarpong Asiedu has intimated that in any serious country in the world, the alleged donation would have opened a can of ‘maggots’ as he questioned if taxes were paid on the amount by both the recipient and the donor especially when revenue mobilization has been a major bane of the government.

”Was a tax paid by the donor or receiver of the donation? Last I checked ensawa would be taxable as a gift. Secondly, how many such functions does the CoS attend weekly and how often does she doll out that much… See we are not serious in this country. If we were, this donation and many others would have opened a can of maggots.” He stated as a response to a related post on Facebook.
